Castro was undeniably an improvement. The US establishment even lauded him initially. They only were repulsed by him when he started publicly invoking communism and aligning with the soviets, which really was more of a turn in his ideology. He wasn't as much of a Marxist as Che Guevara, he was more of a typical morally righteous populist guy who despised Batista for being a ruthless gangster. Castro was a heroic dude though, this guy fucked so hard his assassins were getting in bed with him.
