Mine is in administration at the aforementioned school district and was a teacher for 5 years there before the district paid for her masters so I'm pretty comfortable sending my kids to that school. At least our egregious property taxes are going to a good cause (her payroll and retirement)

That's a great point. The news would lead you to believe that the entire city of chicago (using it as an example because I live here) is a complete war zone hell scape and that young white liberal yuppies are dodging bullets on their way to the EL, when in reality there's a new tower going up in West Loop what seems like weekly and there's a teardown for new construction happening on my block just as frequently.

Obviously this development is completely bifurcated between areas that people want to live in and areas that people... dont, but it's happening, and it's happening fast.

I love my car but I also like being able to walk to get to stuff. Makes things like commuting and going to the gym/store easier. There's a very obvious middle ground between the anti-car and the anti-transit people IMO

Depending on where you live anon that's a decent down payment on a house. You could always refinance in a few years too to get a lower rate.

I rarely ever go out to eat. When I do, it's usually to a smaller neighborhood place with good food or to the bar on the corner of the block that I live on.

My gf and I cook all of our meals on sunday and then just mealprep throughout the week. Cheaper, easier, and generally healthier too.

I actually really like it here. I don't need a car, rent is $750/mo, I'm making nearly 6 figures for the same jobs I applied for in Florida that offered me just over 50k, and the options for my career here, even in tech which isn't very big in Chicago are much better than what I had in Florida.

If you're a young professional, I'd argue it's the best place in the country to be. The only downside is the cold
