The attraction to these cities is built on their image of the past. It's so stupid. Anytime I meet anyone abroad in Europe, Africa, Russia, etc. EVERY single one without says they want to move to New York or LA so bad, and go deaf when i mention their quality of life would be way higher in any one of the 50 other big sized american cities. They think they're gonna be living in Seinfeld or How I Met Your Mother or an NWA vid probably because that media just reached their country, not realizing these cities haven't been cultural beacons for like 25 years. Then The complain that they'd rather live in a big city than some "small town", while failing to realize the 40th biggest city in the US is bigger than whatever shithole euro capital they're currently in.

They're also completely unaware they'll never make the money, or be competitive or smart enough to actually live a decent life in NYC, so they move to Utica or some other shithole just so they can tell their foreign cousin on their daily 3 hr skype convos that they live in 'new york". Never underestimate the stupidity of people who literally can't move their legs to some other city in the US because their brains can't comprehend that they actually exist.
