I've got a Minelab Equinox 800 that I use quite a bit, thinking of getting her the same so she can run a 15 inch coil for deeper stuff and I'll run the 6 inch coil for pickers. They're about $1k AUD, dunno what the price would be in other countries.

Depending on where you live and what sort of ground you're dealing with (and whether you care about finding gold or not), you could easily go with the Equinox 600 too, it's a great machine as well for coins and relics and stuff and is a few hundred bucks cheaper. Both the 800 and the 600 are waterproof to about 6 feet, good for the beach as well as parks and stuff, and they can discriminate nicely between ferrous/non-ferrous material.

Pick related is two of my favourite finds with the Nox, one is a 1911 Australian penny, the first year it was minted, found near Ballarat, other is a 1934 Kiwi florin (50% silver), second year it was minted, found near Dunedin.
