no that self fullfilling promise contradicts itself quickly because everybody knows there is a thing called crowded trade, so which one is it, cant be both :P in fact if everybody followed some same technical like some old fashioned golden cross :) (which they dont cause everybody uses different things..) => market would blow them out

now one reason market is doing whipsaws because there still was lots of momentum/trend following strategies around, in fact still most hedges are trend following like ctas. when market does long period whipsaws that kills all simplistic trend following models for sure
