I think if you are holding gold as a hedge against your currency the premium in the end is irrelevant. You either have the gold and get through the crisis or you don't. Do you think turks or Lebanese or Venezuelans that went through hyper inflation care that they paid a 25% premium on gold items that they enjoyed for years rather than low premium bullion? in the end they had the gold and got through the crisis while their less prepared friends lived in misery.
