>the Chainlink network doesn't ACTUALLY earn money and needs to be subsidized

You're clueless.

>the network only functions because Chainlink subsidises the entire thing

This is wrong. The users of the network are paying Chainlink, see pic.

Chainlink is the contract operator (the only one atm), they're always supposed to be paying the nodes.

>ATM its basically free data.
No, the users are paying Chainlink for the data. See pic.

This is basically a typical contract setup:
>users (e.g. defi project)s pay contract operator (Chainlink)
>contract operator pays node operators
>node operators pay API

It's just that Chainlink is the only contract operator at the moment, because mainnet is still limited.

>No they don’t, SNX subsidies a few feeds, that’s all.
Every single user pays Chainlink.
See pic.

>Even if chainlink were paying the gas fees, the outcome is the same; they have to dump a ton of LINK to keep up with costs.
Keep up with what costs?

>Because Sergey pays for the node runs
Obviously, he's the contract operator.
That's what the contract operator is supposed to do: pay the nodes.

>Lol, Chainlink has no paying customer!!!
Every single user is a paying customer.

>That is Sergey subsidizing the network by paying partners.
That is the contract operator paying the nodes.

And the contract operator is paid by the clients, see pic.

Sergey is the contract operator (the only one at this early stage of mainnet), and contract operators are supposed to be the ones paying the nodes.

And the end users are supposed to pay the contract operator (if the two are different parties); which they do, see pic.

Chainlink users pay to use Chainlink.
See (outdated) pic.

Time to cope.
