Depends on your budget, which fractional, and ultimately what the spot and premium are. LMU coins are very often sold for just a couple of percent above spot, and US gold coins are typically way above spot. For some coins, that premium will always remain. So either there's no premium when you sell, or you recoup it. Personally, I don't buy less than quarter ounce coins: the designs are simply too tiny to see on anything smaller. My favorite is the ounce, but I can't always afford that much at once. Sometimes I purchase a coin that has a higher premium on speculation it may increase in numismatic value, or I simply like the pattern too much to let it pass by. I bought a raw nugget because I wanted an example of what gold can look like right from nature.
