I love my parents. They emigrated from a soviet hell to Canada (the irony of it becoming a soviet hell hole of its own isn't lost on them either) and worked a shit ton to buy their first tiny little house in which I was born.

3 years later, they upgraded to slightly less small house.

8 years later, they upgraded again to the biggest house we had, until they realized it was too much and too expensive, so they sold and bought a slightly smaller house for half the price on the outskirt of town.

10 years later the property quadrupled in value with this comically inflated chinabux washing housing market.

Now both 60, they went back to Poland with a good chunk of money, and are building brand new rental properties for us to eventually inherit.

Now they're far from perfect, and done dumb shit with money like fall for timeshare scams, etc. But comparing them to friends that they came with from Poland who chose instead just to rent and blow the money on designer clothes and BMWs, they really are the top 1% of boomers.
