The thing is, you're not the only one who would do that. Everybody will be making a beeline for precious metals when another big crash happens. If it's physical you're looking to buy at that time, you will still pay a hefty sum in premiums due to the huge surge in demand.

Look at the top left of that image and imagine what it must have looked like in the context of the peripheral scenery before the mine began. What's pmg's stance on environmentalism when it comes to mining? I guess there are certain places where not many people visit so maybe a beautiful mountain range there could have a mountaintop removal style mine put on it, but even then it's still some sort of loss for the world I think.
