It's all smoke and mirrors. Companies want individuals they can exploit for profit and will return more to the company than they will otherwise be paid. Hiring managers want someone that makes their lives easy and makes them look good to their superiors. Obviously prolonged employment gaps don't help but at the end of the day, it's completely subjective and not worth worrying about.
