It's not tarnish we're talking about here, but probably rust encrusted on the silver, from being in close contact with iron compounds for centuries (could be a nail, or anything i guess..).
Scrapfren advised me to use some drain cleaner to clean up silver RMs i got who have the same issue. But idk if i should try it too with antique silber. A RM is basically worth close to nothing so that's why he advised me drain cleaner i believe, while here it's big monies (and historical, cultural value too), so i'll wait for his expertise before doing something potentially retarded.
