Can I just take a class online, pay for shit on my credit card to get points and build credit, and leave a student loan set to pay off the balance over time?

Assuming the student loan is forgiven by some administration over the next 20 years, what’s the downside? The upside is I get good enough to pay it off myself or get a perspective employer to pay it off.
