Hi, thanks for the illuminating replies! I watched those Youtube videos and now I'd would like to visit that coin market in Shanghai, which is only about 30 minutes away from where I live in Suzhou. I teach English and social studies at an international school.

I watched the video Clearasvodka did about taking his coins out of China in his luggage and declaring them as currency and not precious metals if they ask, which is exactly what I plan to do too. The law says that foreigners can take less than ¥20,000 ($2,940) out of the country at a time. Pandas have a face value of ¥10 yuan and carry a spot value of ¥160 so that means you could take out a maximum of ¥320,000 ($50,000) worth of silver... which seems like an obvious loophole the government would want to patch. I'll have to keep looking into it.

I'll definitely stock up and buy as much cheap silver close to spot as I can. It does boggle my mind how it seems cheaper and more available here compared with back home, at least from the stories I've heard in this thread. (Again I haven't been in the US since 2019). I'll still be visiting China in the future so I'm curious about arbitrage opportunities moving forward for sure. Anyway, thanks for interesting feedback and insight. Good luck on your panda stacking.
