Governments and central banks still have no control over Bitcoin. The only thing that gives them some sort of authoritative edge are the centralized exchanges Bitcoin moves through.
CEXs can't be trusted to give a single fuck about the cypherpunk essense of crypto - full control of funds, immutability, privacy, at-will anonymity. They have no problem degrading all these things, especially considering the money they make off volume
It's definitely a "well I got mine" sort of approach. If it keeps going this way, the powers that be will only gain more control and influence over time.
