It is a little overpriced, but if you like it go for it. At the end of the day it is better than a funkopop or a video game. The premium is exceptionally high. There is about $100 worth of gold in a $250 purchase so this would have to be a numismatic purchase or lifetime hold for you to make money unless there are dynamics in the escudo market I don't know about. Unless you are really interested in this time period, there are better options to spend your fiat for gold. Personally, I'd pass on this coin at that price.

Sure, if I wanted to do that, I could, but pinching a penny or dime out of circulation is almost effortless. The furnace...It's not a bad idea though. I'm planning on building a small metals workshop in my backyard this summer. I've got a ton of aluminum cans saved to practice with.
