Who cares why Satoshi used a double hash, both Creg and Greg here are making assumptions on why, only the real Satoshi knows why.

Craig's reason of it being protection against an "hash extension attack" even showed more how little of the Bitcoin protocol he knows.

The entire double hashing process (whether from private key to address, or the block or blocl header) is a fixed process, there is nowhere you can insert a "message with an extension" (pic), protecting from an extension attack at this point is idiotic.

And CSW probably plagiarized that post too.
That happened in 2019, but as early as 2013, someone else already "theorized" the double hash "might" be too protect against extension attacks:
