Panman, Alaskanon here. I'm eagerly awaiting spring for muh fishing, but I am planning to do some panning and noob-tier prospecting as well. There's a potentially legendary fishing hole I am hoping to hit, but it's got an interesting river feature nearby. The river is normally winding, fast, and relatively deep, but at one point it smacks into a cliff and splits into a huge deep back-eddy and a long straight rocky section that is wide and shallow. Instead of the normal 6-8 foot channel it has 3-4 at the deepest and is mostly 6-12 inches over large rocks. The river itself is fed by creeks and sloughs that have produced gold over the years. Would it be a safe assumption to think that both the back-eddy and the rocky/shallow straight stretch could act as a catch for upstream metals?

If it makes you feel better I've got a friend who's been making 150k + bonuses a year for the last 5 years and, despite saying he wants to get into silver, owns no silver and only 1000 LINK (granted he bought at .50, but all the same). I think he means make sure they perform well in your area. I guess I don't know how much that matters in lower48 ville but up here you gotta make sure a variety does gooder in the short summer.
