Panman, Alaskanon here. I'm eagerly awaiting spring for muh fishing, but I am planning to do some panning and noob-tier prospecting as well. There's a potentially legendary fishing hole I am hoping to hit, but it's got an interesting river feature nearby. The river is normally winding, fast, and relatively deep, but at one point it smacks into a cliff and splits into a huge deep back-eddy and a long straight rocky section that is wide and shallow. Instead of the normal 6-8 foot channel it has 3-4 at the deepest and is mostly 6-12 inches over large rocks. The river itself is fed by creeks and sloughs that have produced gold over the years. Would it be a safe assumption to think that both the back-eddy and the rocky/shallow straight stretch could act as a catch for upstream metals?

If it makes you feel better I've got a friend who's been making 150k + bonuses a year for the last 5 years and, despite saying he wants to get into silver, owns no silver and only 1000 LINK (granted he bought at .50, but all the same). So, you know, you're doing A OK bud. That you're aware is a big part of the battle.

I think he means make sure they perform well in your area. I guess I don't know how much that matters in lower48 ville but up here you gotta make sure a variety does gooder in the short summer.
