Can someone explain to me what the utility of a company going public is. As I understand it, the only time the company actually makes money on the deal is during the initial offering to accredited investors. Forever after, the company makes no additional money from being publically traded. It's a one-time cash infusion. But, in exchange for this money, the company becomes beholden to making profit for stockholders from now until literally doomsday. It's a faustian bargain.

I also get that company founders are usually replete with their own company's stock so they like going public because it means they become absurdly rich. But it still seems like a raw deal for the company itself. They can never focus on anything other than returning stockholder value for the rest of their existence. Integrity, authenticity, creativity, it all goes out the window in the pursuit of making money for already rich investor fuckers.
