Just got my CDL A, less than 6 months solo experience. I make $1300-$1400 a week after taxes in a full week on average. I can get plenty of home time but choose to work around 3-4 weeks and then take 4-5 days off. My company runs east coast/midwest mostly. I would advise you to look for a company that is not based out of a big city. As long as you live in the general region of where your company runs it doesn't matter where you live, until your truck needs repairs/servicing anyways. You can read more on trucker report. There is always a trucker thread up on the auto board, but it's shit and you won't get productive advice. I'd say get your CDL now, but just know that the winter months are the hardest and most people who make it to solo end up quitting this time of year. Trucking is without a doubt not a career, it is a lifestyle. I've been in the military and thought I'd have no issues with the stress management, I was wrong.

Do not start for less than .52 CPM, make sure you get a company that has some form of per diem, look for extra CPM on east coast routes. If you have a GI bill DO NOT USE IT FOR (((SCHNEIDER))) or Swift, they are just stealing from veterans.
