You never miss out on the upside, you get to capitalize on the downsides, and the only trade off is that you will slightly under perform someone who perfectly times the market. Basically no one perfectly times the market outside of blind luck/insiders.

I always buy each month at a set amount of fiat, while putting aside a set amount for a perceived "dip" this way I dont miss out, but I also pay more some times, but those purchases DCA. Then on the surges down I have a pile of powder to throw at it, which was nice for that sept dip.
