Yeah it was pretty blatantly unconstitutional but I imagine that most goldbugs know that the constitution is ultimately just paper that goes out the window when things get scary.
It's almost funny how transparent the confiscation was. They ordered everyone to hand in their gold but the govt was kind enough to buy it from them for $20 a pop, then literally DAYS after they finished collecting the govt raised the dollar/gold ratio from 20 to 35. Anyone who trusted the govt got their payout immediately reduced through inflation by about 75%.
On the other hand lots of people didn't hand shit in which is why Pre-33 coins are still a thing.
