i've lived on the east coast of canada all my life, and so many people that i've encountered are so goddamned unconcerned with other people's privacy when they're doing things like using the washroom or changing their clothes that it's maddening
i swear to god more than half of the people around here are goddamned insectoids; you'll be pissing in a public washroom with the door locked, and some bumblefuck lobotomite whose five-second memory span prevents them from remembering that they just witnessed you entering the bathroom will come up to the other side of the door and, without knocking, just try to brute force it open by shaking at the handle and pushing on the door for five seconds—and if you don't fucking YELL something over the sounds of their furious assault on the door to let them know that you're in there, they'll get someone who works at the place to unlock the fucking thing
and this all takes place in the span of, like, a minute
all they'd have to do is fucking knock, but confoundingly simple etiquette that is utterly essential to a civilized society just eludes nearly every age demographic in this impoverished frozen hellscape piss-and-shithole
