Many SEA and NE Asian countries now straight up think China is number 1 because of their performance in the pandemic and trade war. Western thinking which this thread showcases well, is based on the assumption that America is still in a position to dictate the terms.

China has the largest retail market, IT market, biggest economy by a long shot, just alleviated absolutely poverty in their whole country, is generations ahead on renewables and are actually tackling the wealth gap issue.

Countries look to China for policy inspiration, not America. China has been dictating the terms since 2008, we still haven't realized this and keep overplaying our hand and falling flat on our faces. The only real credible power we have is our military and our allies who still believe we're the leader of the free world. This dichotomy happened a couple decades ago and we seem to be in the reverse role this time.
