Japanese business culture was established during the "economic miracle" phase which ended 25 years ago. Their economy has been fucked since the late 90s and they don't really know how to respond to that, so they just pretend that they can fix it by all working extra long hours for years on end.

It's a really sad state of affairs desu, you see overworked salarymen sleeping in public all the time. Their national hero is a 94 guy who makes sushi in a train station, has never taken a vacation in his life and plans on working until the day he dies. This man is held up as the template that all other Japanese workers should aspire to.

TL;DR the nips are fucked and desperate, I would an hero if I was a jap salaryman
