I bought a cheap neglected house in the countryside through an online auction and when I went there for the first time to check everything out and install a lock, the locals told me I'm pretty much insane for buying it and no sane person would want it even for 1 euro. Apparently the town in question is inhabited almost exclusively by 70+ yo widows with a few old alcoholics and small time farmers sprinkled in. Also a few windows of my new house were broken and the interior was vandalized. The local social worker (also 70+ yo) that saw me while walking down the road told me that it was done by some anti-social gypsies that had recently returned from prison. They live a few house down the road from me.

Suddenly I feel like I'm better off staying in the city and renting a tiny apartment.
