I've been led to believe that pre-Meiji Japanese coins are WIDELY faked and hard to detect because the markings were crude. Picrel not related. Good luck!

I'm going to Japan in March. I have the Ginza Coin Shop on my itinerary. But I am mainly hoping to snag Meiji gold coin.
