The cold is fine but Minnesota does suck, St. Paul increased my dad's already ludicrous property taxes by 20% immediately after the federal tax cuts were passed. They also "nationalized" trash collection last year and predictably all the garbage companies started charging 50% more than they were the year before. If nothing else it's a nice, manageable anecdote for how "centrally managed" and/or "free" shit from the government works in practice.

My dad's a good example why no one under 70 should buy a house; the apartment I live in is overpriced enough but at least I don't have to pay the government $3,000 a year in addition to a mortgage for the privilege to live on the East Side of Saint Paul in Ramsey (PIECE OF SHIT) County.
