Because you have to be tied into the facebook ecosystem and it constantly records you and you can't say bad words without getting the banhammer on your entire system. Also you can't just trade it to someone or lend it to anyone else because of drm. There are like a hundred third party vr headsets that are coming out that all work with steam vr, all with better specs and performance and that don't use the overpriced oculus store which will eat into margins even more.
They basically got lucky this generation of headsets and were relying on the goodwill of the old oculus.\

Also as a whole vr is nearly impossible to make good games for because of movement restrictions.
