If China nuked DC right now your average american would be more inclined to send them a thank you letter than call for war. The choice between "Go fight random chinese people overseas." or "Fight against the people stealing your wealth and attempting to force you to fight random chinese people to prop up their immense wealth extraction scheme so they can continue to sap you dry." is an easy one to make for most people, I'd assume.
