basically a "chip" sample is the most basic form of sample you can do from a rock outcrop, you usually do a set or series of chips across the face and send them for assay, or do a specific chip sample for a spot separate from the others. You do this if you have a section of rock you think may be different grades than the rest or for a number of other reasons. Its not inherently sketchy unless you only present one sample out of context from the rest like its special. A "channel" sample is done when you find an outcrop and dont have access to a drill, or you want to take a wide surface sample for records / assay. its another step taken towards doing deeper drilling and once again its done as part of the exploration program and is only seen as more sketchy because you can focus more on more interesting targets with it.

Its true Bayhorse used a "chip" sample as an example but they did show the rest of the samples in series as your suppose to, however they only mentioned the high grade nuggety gold sample as a presser, which is scummy. Same goes for Klondike as well. Hopefully this explains a bit.
