Nah almost never happens. The only time in history something even remotely like that happened was back in the Klondike rush on discovery creek when a guy called Tomas Day staked a fraction claim on the creek only 45m by 10m. he dug right at the narrow end til his hands bled and found nothing, so he went drinking and met a guy called John Toop. Day sold the claim for $10 and a bottle of whiskey, and that evening Toop went up and started digging, instead trying the top left of the claim instead. He struck over 1 and a half tons of gold only 3 feet down, and that claim became likely the richest stretch of placer ground on earth.
