Ant hills and termite mounds are interesting to us as outside observers, but most people would not wish to live in one. The idea that increasing the number of moving parts or degrees of freedom in a system somehow makes it inherently desirable is a bit odd. Especially considering the growing sense of ennui that seems to come with living in an industrial society. I should point out to you that the concept of simplicity or unity of intent being something that is transcendent or close to the divine is not exactly only a Taoist idea. Its a recurring theme in Abrahamic faiths, all the strains of Buddhism, most of your Greek philosophers, etc... Even Hinduism with its plethora of gods great and small becomes more and more concerned with becoming miscible with the single, unconditioned reality as you read deeper into it.
