The basic explanation is hedgies selling the few stocks they have to each other in rapid succession to trick the market algorithms into thinking there's a mass selling, dropping the price. Pic related, it's basically just a scare tactic in hopes of getting people to sell out of fear that the stock is crashing. Pic related.
