Listen you silly person. Most people can't afford all that shit, because current generations don't have reliable mass employment like the last two generations did. If we were having the equivalent of this thread 50 years ago in a coffee shop at Berkeley, I'd say, okay, that's true. But it's not, because income dynamics are completely different. Can you afford a high grade US bond fund? Can you afford to invest in foreign equities? If you can, that's great, but most people can't.

Most people, at least as far as I can tell, are not ranging for that long of an investment. Who on /biz/ is investing planning for their retirement? Not very many, I don't think.
