>preventing monopolies from developing
literally all monopolies are state enforced

like ISPs are rare only because of the regulatory fines of laying cable and because the other companies have a strategy that involves fraudently suing the up and coming companies with their cash reserves.

Here is an article about how the biggest cost is fighting the big ISPs in court:
https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/04/one-big-reason-we-lack-internet-competition-starting-an-isp-is-really-hard/

Also another thing that really hampers us is that people have been conditioned to not want to pool their resources together with anything but the state. Right wing christian churches are the only ones that are taking care of the poor and homeless in america yet the left refuses to try and make a non government social safety net.. this is partially because they want to inflict violence upon their wrongly perceived oppressors, ie billionaires, and because it's just not yet entered the cultural zeitgeist and there are so few examples of success yet.. but one of the best examples is the 8 billion a year that goes to funding anti aging research and life extension. Aubrey De Grey heads that if you want a name to google.
