I can't remember which economist said it but long term selfishness looks a lot like short term selflessness. There is actually more potential money in keeping people alive longer. There is a possibility that some are more focused on the short term but I assume that any big organization of an established track record is ultimately driven by people with a long view.

To out in more simple terms it's easier to squeeze a person over a long time for a little when the person thinks they are going to live. It's harder to get money out of people on a your going to die and this either works or it doesn't factor.
