Speaking of volatility, there is something important that will sound obvious but I don't think people consider this enough when choosing stocks: there is a Buffett (I think?) quote about past performance not being indicative of future performance. That's correct, however, near term, say last six months, volatility IS indicative of near term future volatility regardless of direction that manifests in. This means high volatility stocks can be assumed to continue to be highly volatile for near future. High volatility is greater risk/reward ratio but also more challenging to trade successfully as you may not receive any warning before things do a u-turn and turn your profitable trade in to a loser.
