Sometimes IV will dump the next day. Other times it takes longer. The problem with buying options for earnings is that you don't know the direction, and there is theta decay. So your next idea is to buy straddles further out (which will have higher vega too). The IV might not actually increase as much as expected and then you're dealing with poor liquidity on the options chain. If you do hold through earnings the problem is that the actual move might be less then the expected (priced in) move. Like TSLA yesterday priced in a +/- 11% move. It only went up 1.6% today.

Sincere question. Does anyone here actually outperform the SP 500? Does anyone consistently make more than 10% per year?

Yesterday an anon sold $11.5 SNAP puts thinking he makes money if the price goes down. SNAP dropped 39% today, and is under $10. I think it's healthy to remind yourself that you're not the dumbest person on this board.

You can DCA when the S&P 500 breaks below the 200 EMA. If it drops 20% or more from all time highs, like now, you start throwing all your money at it. And you can fuck around with leverage when it gets back up to normal conditions. Using 3x ETFs like SOO and UPRO, or LEAPS.
