I was just looking at the history and the US invasion of Iraq began in March 2003, but Powell did his WMD presentation of 5 Feb, which means they would already have been buzzing about it in Jan. Maybe the writing was on the wall already and people were spooked?

Iraq war does seem bigger than sars, but sars would put a damper on transportation, and TRANSPO looks like it was a major source of the pain (see pic related)

Really, the dotcom bubble was still shaking out? Will check that out too. But fear of WMD's and war seems like it could hurt. But once the shots hit, or whatever the saying is, it's a buy time for the US stocks.
