That said, having been in a few mines (deepest so far: coal mining, 1000 m bgl), it's still not really easy money nowadays. Sure, we've got LED lights that produce as much light as the whole set of acetone lights of a whole shift (or all the candles of a whole, huge mine), but still, it's hard work.
(As is tunneling. Ended up working on the surface side of it, let's see if I get assigned some shifts underground at some point)
