Not true. TA is just one tool in the drawer of several. Your cash management, stop losses, portfolio diversification, and insurance hedges all play a part to reduce your exposure to unknown variables like that. Some of it is even avoidable well ahead of time. For instance maybe you decide you don't want to trade in the near vicinity of an FOMC meeting, or your stock's earnings report, or a federal election, or whatever due to probability of coin flip scenarios occurring on those occasions.
