Imagine all the people bought VIDT to own a percentage of V-ID. People who bought thinking a large chunk of VIDT would be taken out of circulation once the conversion happens. The people that thought buybacks would continue until eternity and won't end by the end of this year.

If they lied about VIDT/VIDS what stops them from lying about the buybacks? They also cannot afford it.
