I haven't watched or read Naruto, but I do know that Naruto was the one who copied elements from HxH rather than the other way around.
But even without having seen Naruto I can safely say it's nothing like it, and extremely unique. Although you wouldn't necessarily know it from the first couple of arcs.
It happens to be in Jump, so technically it's a shounen. But eventually that becomes a huge demographic mismatch to a pretty absurd degree.
