Materials science is still at the core of technological developments (think 7nm transistors, etc.)
however, we are still a far ways away from having a grid-less future and batteries are a poor mans way of storing energy (even high energy density capacitors)
funnily enough, water reservoirs are still the best store of energy (think hydroelectric powerplants)

actually, the projects I'm working on now are related to the end-users more than the grid (pic related).
This kind of technology of course lends itself to a decentralized oracle like chainlink
instead of decentralized price feeds, imagine decentralized electrical grid feeds (think: power, energy, voltage, current, frequency, power factor, etc.)
