As a kid I also liked the galaxy squad sets and used a red windshield piece + blue wings from the alien invasion theme helicopter jet thingy + more blue and black parts to make a decent space police ship based on the original space police lineup from the 80s or whenever.

Well I keep my silver in a chest and it doesn't tarnish that much. Silver I've kept outside has tarnished after being left out for a month. One of them was from 1896 too. I didn't realize until it was too late.
