First, be very patient. Let it set somewhere out of harms way. This isn't a decision you have to make now.

Second, be patient. The notion that you have to do something now is troubling. I would ax the condo idea for now until you have had time to consider your options and gain knowledge in how to execute them.

Third, be patient. If you haven't been preparing to invest a lot of money in the last few years, there is no reason to think you would suddenly be successful with it now and make clear decision just because you are suddenly able to move large amounts of cash.

I would continue doing what you are doing and just slowly gain information on your options and wait until you can make informed intelligent, educated decisions. There is no harm in moving some of it into a safe cruise-control investment for a while if you can be patient while you learn. I certainly would not go buying property or finance inchoate dreams right away. Keep this 'partner' at a distance until you have your bearings. I understand that it's a lot to consider, so take your time.

Also, my sympathies for your loss.

Keep it liquid, keep it safe.
