Just use the 200 MA on weekly or daily charts. Long term is easier to trade. If you move to smaller time frames then make sure the long term and mid term trend is in your favor. Ignore candles, patterns, and most TA.

Apply some moving averages and see what works on different time frames (like pic related for example). As for a pure long term hold, no. The volatility on the underlying is too high. Check out the past 5 year performance of SOXX vs SOXL. SOXX wins. SP 500 theoretically maxes out at 3x leverage and Nasdaq 100 at 2x. The standard deviation of SOXX is much higher. That's bad.

No problem. Pic related shows the SP 500 (SPY) week long chart, covering the past 10 years. It's really that easy. Buy above, sell below. But if you move into small time frames make sure that the long and medium term trend is also in your favor. Which you can also check using the 200 MA. Keep it simple.
