The point isn't the overall number. The point is the younger generation is not large enough to support the older aging population. To support a modern economic system you need a ever increasing population size.

The US got very lucky that millennials are bigger than Gen-X. millennials are going to be basically supporting Silent, boomers, and soon Gen-x at this point. But it's looking like Gen-Z wont be big enough and Gen-A is looking to be even smaller. Things are fucked when millennials get to retirement age.
