Craig has an interest in muddying the waters and maintaining plausible deniability whether he is Satoshi or not. He has no interest in becoming widely known as Satoshi to the general public, there are many negative consequences to this. Unwanted attention, sycophantic adulation, threats, a barrage of constan media coverage, trolls, sychophants, leeches, opportunists, organized criminals, interest from State actors, fake news machinery, EVERYONE watching his every move, and the markets reacting to everything he says.

The problem is that meanwhile feels the need to prove his identity as Satoshi to certain individuals in PRIVATE, so key people agree to work with him on the premise that he is in fact the real inventor. It's the difference in managing public versus private proof, so he can take advantage of the benefits of being Satoshi in business life, while at the same time keeping obscurity in the public. There is enough evidence already in the public sphere to know for certain that he is Satoshi, but it takes intelligence and discernment to reach that conclusion. I think Craig is perfectly content with this arrangement - it's like an IQ filter for his followers - only those smart enough to "get it" will want to work with him.
